Box Score Game One

Box Score Game Two

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University baseball team split a doubleheader with Kutztown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Sunday. The Huskies were victorious in game one 5-3 and dropped game two 10-4.

In game one, both teams were scoreless through the first two and a half innings. Bloomsburg then broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third after Anthony Foreman (Richboro/Council Rock South) hit a lead-off double and was then brought home off a Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown) sacrifice fly. Kutztown then came back in the top of the fourth with a three-run inning and held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom half of the sixth inning.

It was there where the Huskies began their comeback. Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) started the sixth with a single, then two batter later, Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) reached base after an error by Kutztown's center fielder that allowed Donofry to score from second base. Matt Allen (Willamsport/Clarion) then delivered an RBI single that knocked in pinch runner Donaven Rodriguez (Manheim/Manheim Central) that tied the game up at three. Carlos Medina (Lititz/Manheim Twp.) then came to the plate and hit what turned out to be the game-winning hit as he smacked a double that scored Allen and gave Bloomsburg a 4-3 lead. The Huskies then added an insurance run when Medina scored off a Foreman sacrifice fly that made the score 5-3 going into the seventh.

In the seventh, pitcher Grant Kernaghan (Upper Darby/Upper Darby) came in and earned the save, his fourth of the year. The winning pitcher for Bloomsburg was Mike Rossetti (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) who earned his first win of the year after not giving up a run in a little over two innings of relief work.

In game two, Kutztown jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, then put the game out of reach in the third after scoring four runs. At the plate, Preston Hitchcock (Laceyville/Lock Haven) led the way for the Huskies going 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Bloomsburg is now 7-19 overall, 2-2 in the PSAC. They return to action on Tuesday when they host Susquehanna in a single nine inning game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
